FLEA CONTROL FOR CATS
Tips on cat fleas.
Fleas
must be the most irritating things to cats. It’s just like humans having
nits but all over the body! Fleas are really common in cats, which is
why there are so many different products, which you can buy to control
them.
What are Fleas?
Cat Fleas, which are adults, are about 1/8 in (2.5 mm) long. Their
body is flattened from side to side, has no wings and are brownish black
to black, but reddish black when full of blood. A cat flea’s habitat
is mostly on cats! But they can also live on other animals, such as
opossums, foxes, mongoose and even rats. They are also found indoors
in narrow cracks where these animals frequently visit, especially where
there is high moisture. The fleas have chewing mouthparts and feed on
cat’s blood as well as dried adult flea fecal blood. Cat fleas also
sometimes infest in humans, which is not a nice experience.
Here are a few tips on how to control
cat fleas.
- Prevent wild animals from visiting
the structure. Use traps or baits.
- Have pets treated by a veterinarian,
groomer, or the pet owner, on the same day that the creature is treated.
- Remove all items from floors, closet
floors, and under furniture.
- Vacuum floors, wall-floor junctions,
upholstered furniture, and the base of furniture where the pet rests.
- Remove the vacuum bag immediately,
sealing it in a plastic bag, and placing it in an outdoor garbage bin.
- Clean all surfaces, which the cat
uses, such as counters, tabletops, refrigerator top, and windowsills.
Remove all pets and cover aquariums, turning off pumps.
Even if you don't have fleas now, if you allow your cat to go outside and
you live in a flea friendly geographical area, you can be sure a flea battle
is in your future. Even indoor cats can get fleas since these determined critters
would hitch rides into your home on socks or at the bottom of your trousers.
You are now able to take your cat
to your local vet to have your cat injected with the Flea injection every
6 months. The six month injection that prevents and controls flea infestations
on cats and in their habitat.
How it works:
- The fluid called Lufenuron is continuously
released into the bloodstream
- An insect development inhibitor
(IDI), lufenuron stops the development of flea eggs
- Because it is designed as a slow-release
product, 6 month injections for Cats takes 2-3 weeks to reach effective
blood levels
- Effective blood levels persist
through 6 months
So, take your pet to your vets as soon as possible to avoid the irritation
for your cat. The injection is quick and effective and will protect your cat
from the horrible fleas and also yourself!
