Tips On Looking After A Cat
Some Thing You Need To Know
Just got a cat? Need to
know some things about your new companion?
Here are a few tips on your cat’s
behaviour:
- Attacks (Ankle Biting)
Ankle biting and sudden attacks are most often associated
with predatory aggression. Cats have a strong natural desire to
hunt. Inside the house, there isn't much to satisfy this desire,
so they have to make do with what they have. Moving body parts like
ankles, legs and arms usually get attacked. A way to avoid this
is to provide your cat with appropriate toys such as furry balls
on a string, wand and interesting motion toys that cats like to
chase. Most cats will grow out of this behaviour by the time they
are 2-3 years old providing they have alternative objects to attack
and lots of exercise.
- Aggression between cats
Do you have another cat? Aggression between cats is
a difficult problem. In some cases it could be unresolvable. Some
people just resorted to keeping their cats in separate parts of
the house, all the time. There are medications (Amitriptylline)
for these problems. Most cats finally resolve their problems but
you can resort to using the medication.
- Letting your cat out
or not
If you already have a cat you will know how much affection
it gives you. To millions of people, they are the most fascinating of
non-human associates. Your cat would want to explore the outdoors, and
it is fine for your cat to do so but for some cats, which have never
been outside, they wouldn’t have the desire to go out. A cat naturally
uses the litter tray unlike dogs, which go outdoors to do their business.
So, it’s entirely up to you whether you want to let your cat out.
- Flea control
Fleas can be a major problem for cat owners. Not only
are these tiny creatures a nuisance, they are also the cause of
many diseases such as flea anemia, fleabite dermatitis, and tapeworm
infestation. Therefore, strict flea control is a necessary step
in the health care of any cat. There are many products available
to control the fleas. They come in a forms of mousses, spot-ons,
oral suspensions, powders or spray mists. Although there are many
of these products, caution must be used, as cats are generally more
sensitive to most insecticides. You should be extremely careful
when using flea products on or around their cats. Products should
be used correctly according to the instructions.
Remember to have fun with your
new cat. The way you make the upbringing of your cat will affect
the personality of your cat, so treat it with dual love, attention
and respect, you will receive the same back.
